If the business owner (proprietor, partner, S-corp shareholder) invests the money back in the business, he IS NOT TAXED on that money!!! Not counting retained earnings in a S-corp, just to keep it correct.

mil­lion­aires.  What I do care about is get­ting this econ­omy back to
where it should be.

Michael and I have both pointed out that the particular individuals whose taxes would go up aren’t going to create any jobs anyway. (And by the way, small businesses aren’t going to have their taxes raised!!! I’ve pointed that out already!!!) I want to say, “try keeping up with the argument,” but that would be impolite, and I apologize for it. I really don’t know what else to say, when you refuse even to acknowledge that your talking points have been answered numerous times.

I get that you’re married to your talking points. But they just don’t hold water. Please consider the responses that have been made to them, okay? I bet there are conservative arguments that acknowledge the Real World. Can’t you find them?

Sure, if you pick generic business owner of generic business receiving generic profits. But I’m talking about a more specific segment of business owner.

Here is where we have a fundamental disagreement.  It’s the notion that small businesses do not invest profits back into their businesses.
 
If a business owner gets to keep less of his profits, he has less to invest back into his company.  That is bad for the economy, bad for employment, and in turn bad for the deficit.

The threat of tax increases on business owners has been looming over the economy for 3 and half years now.  If they would just stop it and reassure them that taxes will not increase until we’re back to full employment, the economy would take off, revenues to the treasury would increase, and deficits would fall.

No, they don’t. But in this particular context it doesn’t matter, except insofar as Max’s statement wasn’t accurate. The most likely outcome would be no change in unemployment, but a decrease in the deficit. I could live with that outcome.

But he offered absolutely noth­ing new. Why was it a walk-​​off base hit?

Because he committed no errors. The news the following day wasn’t about any data presented that wasn’t factual. It wasn’t about how he made some sort of gaffe. It wasn’t how he blundered in any way. It was a meme of “yeah, but it didn’t wow me”. That’s a base hit.
