Who We Are
It seems Mitt Romney has no shortage of ways or days in which he puts his (webbed?) foot in his mouth. In today’s edition, Mother Jones reports that he stated during a fundraiser that
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax…[M]y job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
Apparently, a platypus such as myself — who pays a significant amount in federal income taxes every year and receives no direct payments from the federal government, yet will vote for President Obama — does not exist. I have to hand it to our local conservative anthropologist, filistro, who recently pointed out this meme in the comments.
The saddest part of this is how that statement wasn’t from Eric Erickson, or Grover Norquist, or Michele Bachmann. Those people are notorious for making outrageous statements. But none of them are on the ballot in November, in no small part because of making those sorts of statements. Romneyis on the ballot. What does this say about him?

Great linkage to games theory. It’s a fun topic to explore, and its applicability to the human condition cannot be overstated.
