Fili, Mass politics can be pretty different and I would not utter unbeatable yet, that said Brown has supporters that may as has happened before turn on him just as quickly as they took up his cause before. I hope Ms. Warren goes after Brown next with facts and numbers. He may be a JAG Col. but I have never seen him to be that sharp a tool, most days just a tool.

I still don't get the whole native American thing. Does she or does she not have at least a little Indian back ground? If she does so what unless now the Republicans are against Native Americans too. They really need to have this election before they manage to piss off every demographic but old rich white guys.

I think this whole campaign, even the Cherokee thing, has been a total electoral plus for Elizabeth Warren. I'm struck by how many people commented after the debate that she seems like somebody's "really nice bright auntie."

When Warren first came on the scene, she was so formidable as to be a bit off-putting. Her stellar academic background, her work establishing the Consumer Protection Agency and her general brilliance.. all put distance between her and the average voter.

Seeing her make some blunders and get attacked and set back on her heels has made her much more human and approachable. Instead of being threatened by her, people now identify with her and even feel protective... as they would toward their favorite aunt if somebody was attacking her.

Elizabeth Warren never needed more qualifications or smarts. She did need some humanizing, and this campaign has supplied that. Now I think she's probably unbeatable.

Brown is quite possibly misreading a number of things including the fact that he isn't running against MarthaCoakley this time. OJ mentioned how one possibly 2 media outlets in the state are just all over themselves trying to blow Brown's horn and it is getting pretty nauseating. One can take just about so much of Howie Carr too I might add it is a great mystery how he still has sponsors left. But it appears Brown is liking the treatment at the expense of listening to what voters are actually saying.

It is possible that Brown will turn out to be a one trick pony and ah shucks want to see my pick up truck is only going to take one just so far or often. When Brown won the teapers were able to throw their whole damned arsenal at the election but now they seem to have issues all over the place and Brown most likely will not have their undivided attention, time or eventually money. The more he slides (if indeed he does) the faster the slide will become. Because let us not forget there are any number in the teaper ranks that never did really trust him and he has made some votes they didn't like and so if he is seen as going down many of them will opt to throw him an anvil over a life jacket as a warning to others that might wish to stray.

From many many friends down there and my own impression of the tape of the debate I don't think Brown did himself any favors. Mass. isn't what many other states are and coming across as just plain in your face and denigrating may not play as well as he had hoped. But then again look at the crowd he has been hanging with. Nasty 24/7 can rub off on one if they are not careful. Let us hope he keeps listening to his party compatriots, maybe Rush can give him some pointers or maybe Akin,yeah thats the ticket and should play just fine and dandy in Mass, You Betcha.

@mclever,

It was from those religious sources that medieval kings got the idea. The king was once considered to be the earthly representative of God (or of some god, anyway, depending on whether you're talking about ancient Egypt or Greece, or medieval England), so it was a natural progression to go from deity to king.

This identification of king with deity is the reason why, even today, the Archbishop of Canterbury crowns the King (or Queen) of England, and why the English monarch is head of the Anglican Church.
@DC

You are a font of fascinating facts. I knew that the empty throne had been used to represent Zeus, but not that it also had been used to symbolize Buddha and even the Judeo-Christian God. Learning things that I didn't know about my own faith is always interesting.

@centauri

I don’t know MA very well, so I can only hazard a guess that it has a
lot more D-leaners that resent education than R-leaners that
respect it.

Or, perhaps more likely, Brown is misreading his state? While there are plenty of people who resent "elitist education" in certain parts of this country, I don't see that being the case in the northeast. Perhaps that's colored by my perspective from Iowa where even the Libertarians here campaign on better funding for schools, but I expect the home of MIT, Harvard, and Boston College to value high-quality education. I would think that Brown's derisive attacks on Warren might score points with a few yokels, but mostly they would be counter-productive amongst the higher-minded Massachusetts electorate.

dc,

I was surprised that Brown slyly tried to play the anti-intellectualism card in the most educated state in the nation. I don’t know MA very well, so I can only hazard a guess that it has a lot more D-leaners that resent education than R-leaners that respect it.
